Summer 2013!

Greetings garden friends,

Our summer season in the Garden of Garden has officially begun and already filled with an abundance of our favorite fruits!   The Swiss chard is overflowing, the tomatoes are flowering, and the basil is bountiful!    We have also begun harvesting some of the onions and garlic with carrots to be pulled up soon!  Our final harvests and beds of beets, turnips, lettuces, peas, and strawberries, will be soon replaced with peppers, eggplant, beans, sweet potatoes, and more tomatoes.

Our second planting at the Annual Wellness of Chatham Health Fair in Pittsboro this past month enabled us to share many seeds of garden blessings (and lots of tomato plants!) to all those who attended.   Our Mother’s Day Flower Sale harvested many donations for our garden as well.  Thank you everyone for your continued help and support!

We enjoyed an afternoon of blessed food and fellowship at our annual First Fruits Luncheon this past Sunday.  Thank you to all those that joined us and with your delicious covered dishes!

As the temps heat up, we will be cooling down on Tuesday nights as we resume our “Water Fun Nights” from 6-7 with slip-n-slides, kiddie pools, and lots of giggles!  If anyone has any water play toys, pool, slides, etc. to share, please let me know!

We have also resumed our “Tasty Tuesdays” which will continue every Tuesday through our summer season. We invite anyone to stop by and visit who is interested in “trying out” the garden for an evening and/or simply wanting to share in our nightly harvest.  Pass on the good news to your friends and neighbors!  We praise God for the abundance in blessings and fruits He has provided to our community garden and wish to share His love with many!   “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”  (Psalm 34:8)

We have also been blessed with the opportunity to share weekly out of God’s abundance in the garden to our new local food pantry, S.A.F.E.  Since its opening on May 21st, we have donated over 140 lbs of fresh produce to include lots of lettuce, kale, beets, and turnips.  We invite others to share from their own gardens as well to this wonderful new ministry!  More information about S.A.F.E. is included in this newsletter or you can contact Jim Cheek at 336 376-3658.

If you are not already a member of our garden, it is never too late to join!  Only $10 per season.  Thank you again everyone for your continued love, support, and prayers for our garden!

It WILL be good!
