Fall Season Begins!

Greetings Garden Friends!
There is no denying that fall is just around the corner (or is already here!)  In the garden, we have been prepping for and planting our fall crops over the past couple of weeks and look forward to a plentiful harvest throughout the upcoming season!

We are still enjoying many of our summer fruits to include tomatoes, beans, leeks, basil, eggplant, peppers, and Concord grapes!  We have also begun harvesting early plantings of spinach and salad mix and will be digging up our sweet potatoes later this month!

Our summer garden/community workshop entitled “Packing in the Nutrition, Not Packing On the Pounds” was filled with many blessings and helpful information about healthful meal planning along with how to include the kids!  Garden member, certified nutritionist, and holistic coach, Traci Philips led the event this past Saturday in which Traci’s husband and 6 year old daughter Madi, also shared their thoughts on the subject along with a juicing demonstration to include tasters!

Our 5th annual Fall Harvest Dinner is September 14th from 6-8pm at the Concord UMC fellowship hall.    Mark your calendars and invite your friends to join us for an evening of fellowship and celebration of another year of abundant harvests as we feast on delicious dishes from“around the garden.”

Our brick pizza oven is almost complete! Tentative plans are underway for a pizza making workshop/party soon!  We are so thankful to Kyle Gault and his family (and John Bradshaw!) for the HOURS that they endured through the planning and building process in working towards Kyle’s Boy Scout Eagle badge. Donations are prayerfully requested too help offset the under budged materials costs!

What an amazing year we have had together in the working and taking care of God’s creation while sharing His love with many!  It is never too late to join the garden if you haven’t already!  The fall membership fee is only $10 per family with a commitment to work 1 hour per week (or 4 hours per month) for a share of the day’s harvest.  Our garden work days are Tues/Thurs 5:30 – 7:30 pm and Saturday 9-noon.  No green thumb required…all instructions and tools provided.  Come grow with us...it WILL be good!

Many garden blessings,
Donna Poe, Garden Coordinator
